Exercise for a Healthy Heart

Exercise for a Healthy Heart
Louise Roach

Do you exercise every day? If you want to live a long, healthy life, maybe you should.

A recent study by Timothy Wessel, a physician at the University of Florida, indicates one of the strongest risk factors for developing heart disease is inactivity even more so than being overweight. During the four-year study of 906 women, Dr. Wessel documented those who were moderately active were less likely to develop heart disease than sedentary women, no matter how much they weighed. The study concluded: These results suggest that fitness may be more
important than overweight or obesity for cardiovascular risk in women.

In January, the updated U.S. Dietary Guidelines strongly urged that everyone should take part in at least 30 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity on most days, above whatever activities they do at home or work. To loose weight or to avoid gaining weight as we age, 60 minutes of daily moderate to vigorous exercise is recommended. And those who have already lost weight and are attempting to keep weight off need 60 to 90 minutes of daily exercise.

A study of 9,611 adults by the University of Michigan Health System, found that people in their 50s and 60s who participated in daily exercise were 35 percent less likely to die within the next eight years than their inactive couch potato counter parts.

Convinced that its time to add exercise to your day?

The Basics — Make Exercise a Life Priority:

– If youre not use to exercising, check with your doctor before beginning any strenuous fitness routine.

– Start slow. If 30 minutes of exercise is too much, start with 15 minutes and add a few minutes each day.

– If you dont have time for 60 minutes of exercise, break it up into two 30-minute sessions throughout the day.

– Schedule a specific time to exercise everyday then keep to your schedule!

– Take part in more intense activities that can improve your heart health, such as: running, dancing, swimming, cycling, and climbing stairs.

– Find exercise that you enjoy. You will be more likely to continue and improve your daily performance if you look forward to a favorite activity.

– Wear proper clothing and footwear. This has two functions. Clothing and shoes that are suited to your activity will enhance performance and offer the right kind of support for your body and feet. They will also place you in a better frame of mind for exercise. When you wear your favorite running outfit and slide into your special running shoes, your mind says its time to get out the door and put my feet in motion!

– Add everyday activities to increase your overall fitness level, such as gardening, housework, walking to the store, take the stairs instead of the elevator, and raking leaves.

– Always drink lots of water.

– If you feel discomfort or pain after an activity, use ice therapy immediately to reduce swelling and numb pain. Always have a cold pack in your freezer, ready and waiting. Most aches and pains attributed to exercise respond well to icing and will melt away within 24 hours after applying ice for several 20-minute sessions. Using cold therapy reduces down time, getting you back on schedule fast. (If the pain does not lessen within 48 hours after using ice therapy, is intense or becomes worse, see your doctor.)

Exercise every daytake care of your heartlive long!

Is the pH Miracle diet right for you

The pH Miracle Diet is one of the most interesting and groundbreaking new eating plans to hit the world of nutrition and dieting. This way of eating proclaims that following the program will help restore your health to natural balance and rid you of a myriad of conditions, including excess weight. While most people are looking to shed a few pounds, this diet also claims to help with fatigue, muscle pain and indigestion, as well as many other problems.

If youve tried low carbohydrate diets before and felt terrible after consuming all of that protein, then the pH Miracle diet may be for you. This eating program is based on alkaline foods, which are better for your health and for your body. Since humans have a slightly alkaline pH, eating alkaline foods helps support the bodily pH balance. Most people eat a lot of acidic foods like animal protein, dairy products and wheat. The pH miracle diet consists of certain fruits, vegetables, alternative grains and vegetarian protein sources.

Dr. Robert Young, the creator of the pH Miracle diet, points out in his book that many peoples health problems are due to excess acidity in the body. Among other things, Young says that chronic fatigue, excess mucous production, nasal congestion, frequent colds and infections, stress, anxiety, weak nails, dry hair, dry skin, headaches, arthritis, muscle pain, hives and leg cramps are all signs of excess acidity.

If you have had any of these symptoms for an extended period of time, your acidic diet may be to blame. Think about how much of your diet relies on high acid foods, like animal protein and dairy products. If these problems have been a bother to your life and your health for some time, youll benefit from giving the pH miracle diet a try.

The pH miracle diet will be a welcome relief for those who have tried to do low carb diets with little success. The foods are less harsh on the stomach and digestive system than the heavy protein required on low-carb diets. There is also a better balance of protein to carbohydrates. The proteins that are used on the pH miracle diet are selected carefully for their level of acid. The proteins consist of alkalizing tofu, beans and nuts.

The pH miracle diet is also good for people who enjoy eating a vegetarian diet. If youve given up meat for a day or two and felt better, than this diet may be very beneficial for you. There is no meat on the diet and the only alkaline dairy product allowed is goat milk. Tofu, which has long been a mainstay of vegetarian diets, is a major part of the pH miracle diet.

If you have a diet that consists mainly of processed foods and very few vegetables, you will definitely benefit from this diet. A diet that consists of manufactured food has very little natural nutrients. This can cause many detriments to your health and you can suffer from the effects of malnutrition, even when you are eating your fill. The focus on vegetables and fresh foods in this way of eating will help get natural vitamins and minerals back into your diet. Just adding a moderate amount of alkaline foods to your diet can improve your health greatly.

The pH miracle diet is a good diet for many different types of people. If you fit any of the previous criteria, you owe it to your health to give this way of eating a try.

Looking For Exercise Plans For Quick Weight Loss

Are you looking for exercise plans for quick weight loss? What do you want to know? Regular exercise should consist of a combination of cardiovascular exercise and strength training. Be sure to talk to your doctor to find out if it is ok to begin an exercise routine. If you have high blood pressure regular exercise will eventually help to lower your blood pressure but initially may raise it to a level your doctor may not be comfortable with, so have that conversation and do what your doctor says.

Cardiovascular exercise consists of walking or running on a treadmill, using a stair climber, elliptical machine or stationary bike and getting your heart rate up to a maximum level and sustaining that rate for 20 to 30 minutes. Cardiovascular exercises will strengthen your heart and lungs and increase your stamina.

When looking for exercise plans for quick weight loss another aspect is strength training. Strength training consists of using exercise machines and free weights either at home or in a gym. The best way to tell if you are doing the exercises correctly is to have someone watch you while you do a set to make sure your form is correct. Incorrect form can cause injuries and nobody wants to be in pain.

when you know that your form is correct, choose a weight that is comfortable and do your sets slow and controlled. Never bounce or fling the weight up and down, slow and controlled is the way to go if you want maximum results. Also there is a new theory that states if you just do one set with heavier weights and work your muscles to fatigue, (which means you could not do one more rep even if you wanted to), you will get even faster results.

I know you have probably tried every diet known to man and keep wondering what you are doing wrong. You lose a little here and there but it never stays off, you just can’t stay on those diets. You gain everything you lost back again and may even gain more weight.

You need to stop jumping on every new fad diet that comes down the pike, they will never work. What does work, however is managing your diet, paying attention to what it is you are putting in your mouth and getting regular exercise. Make it a routine. Make an appointment with yourself everyday at the same time and do not stand yourself up. Treat your workout appointment just like you would your doctor’s appointment. You wouldn’t miss that would you? No, you wouldn’t and you cannot afford to miss your workout either.

Your diet should be full of lean meats, fish, fresh fruits and vegetables. Stay away from high carbohydrate foods like bread and potatoes. Learn new, healthy ways to cook. Learn how to read the labels of the foods that you buy at the grocery store. Make sure that the fat percentage to the calories is no more than 30%. Combining diet and looking for exercise plans for quick weight loss is the way to lose those extra pounds forever.
