“What to Know About Weight Loss Products”
There are a lot of weight loss products that offer that fast weight loss results, however, are these really guaranteed? Could these products live up to their assurance of a fit body?
In US, there is an estimated 50 million people who try to lose weigh, unfortunately, only 5 per cent are successful. One thing’s for sure, beware of fraudulent claims and extreme high cost because there is no magic to losing weight.
Samples of weight loss products in the market nowadays:
Diet Patch this was already removed since 1990s by FDA since they were proven ineffective.
Magnetic Diet Pills allegedly flushes out fat, but not.
Guar Gum causes internal obstruction.
Electrical Muscle Stimulators no proven effect.
Eyeglasses that Suppress Appetite These claims that the projected image on the retina decreases appetite. No proven fact.
Weight loss earrings through acupuncture, suppresses appetite.
There are also examples of weight loss products:
Diet drinks that are mixed with beverages or food are used as meal substitutes. A downside of this is that once a person stopped taking the drinks, they would eventually regain the lost weight after a short period of time due to feeling of emptiness in the stomach. Another is diet supplements and medicines that also dont work long-term. Over-the-counter pills that compose of phenylpropanolamine hydrochloride may raise blood pressure and palpitation. Ephedra on the other hand can cause serious side effects such as heart problems, seizure, stroke, and even death. E.g.:
Herbalife Nutritional Program good as two meals, dieters may rely on shakes and follow artificial dieting methods and just dont want food to work into their lives.
Mega-Thin 100 Formula Its formula contains an anti-fat weapon, however, diet is not emphasized thats why its concluded that it has an appetite suppressant.
Nestls Sweet Success recommended to take three times a day and it does not promote healthy eating habits. Weight loss is difficult to maintain once intake is stopped.
Ultra Slim Fast this plan requires regular exercise but does not teach good eating habits.
Diet pills with Ephedra and PPA many of these have enclosed diet plans. Slimming can come from the diet plan and not the pill intake and there are risks of adverse side effects.
Chitosan products contains fibers which were taken from shellfish that may cause diarrhea, bloatedness, and gas. This will only work if a low fat diet is practiced.
Chromium Supplements claim that products will lower blood sugar, body fat and cholesterol but causes anemia and even memory loss. Studies show only minimal or no beneficial effect at all.
Green Tea Extract Products known as strong anti-oxidants that help lower cholesterol and triglycerides, and promote weight loss, however, the caffeine content could cause insomnia and restlessness.
Algae Tablets – Spirulina contains significant nutrients that can be an acceptable food when used as part of a varied diet but are very expensive.
St. John’s Wort Supplement – Claims that it will suppress appetite and promote weight loss but it could lead to gastrointestinal discomfort, tiredness, sleeplessness, and arouse allergic reactions.
Glucomannan Products claim that two capsules before each meal decrease food absorption. Known as food thickeners but not yet proven safe or effective. Weight loss will only happen if good diet plan is followed.
Even if you plan on using over-the-counter weight supplements or even participate in a weight loss activity, the verdict is that you still have to eat fewer calories than you burn to lose weight. When choosing a weight loss product or program, collect as much information as possible.

Rooibos Tea – The Healthy Drink
Rooibos Tea – The Healthy Drink
Nettie Mae
Rooibos, or Red Bush Tea as it is also known, is not a true tea but an herb which is indigenous to the Cederburg area of South Africa. Due to its widely publicized health benefits it has grown into a billion dollar export industry since the mid twentieth century.
The tea has no caffeine and only half the tannin of ordinary tea. Apart from being refreshing to drink, in place of ordinary tea and coffee, it has the advantage of containing minerals and powerful antioxidants. Having no oxalic acid it also does not irritate the kidneys.
Japanese scientists, doing studies in the 1960’s, discovered Rooibos contains a powerful antioxidant similar to SOD which is thought to retard aging and quercetin (Q10) which is believed to have potent anti-inflammatory properties. In addition, Rooibos is also found to contain aspalathin which counteracts the atherosclerotic processes that result in heart disease. For these reasons, the Japanese promote it as an Anti-Aging Tea and import large quantities of the tea.
Research done in France found that hair lotion containing Rooibos promoted faster hair growth with improvement in the hair condition and caused no allergic reactions.
In South Africa research found that the polyphenol content in Rooibos is similar to green tea. Polyphenols help protect the body from damage by free radicals.
Rooibos has been found to be helpful with general health problems. It relieves digestive problems, nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps and constipation. Having a calming effect it helps with irritability, insomnia and depression.
Both pre-natal and breast feeding Mothers can use it to supplement their intake of manganese, calcium and fluoride by drinking Rooibos therefore promote strong teeth and healthy bones in their babies. Rooibos, when applied at every diaper change, can relieve diaper rash and, when drank by the baby, relieves colic.
Preparation of Rooibos is the same as ordinary tea. First warm the tea pot with boiling water and then place one teaspoon of tea or tea bag per cup required in the pot. Pour over boiling water and let infuse for a few minutes. The longer it is left before drinking the more antioxidants the tea will contain. Can be served plain, with hot or cold milk or lemon. It can be lightly sweetened with honey or sugar or just left without any sweetening. Rooibos also makes a wonderful ice tea.
In South Africa Rooibos Tea is often used in day to day cooking as not only does it add important minerals and antioxidants to the diet and help digestion, it also enhances the flavors of the cooking. Just replace the water in a recipe with the tea.
Next time you are in your health shop or in a department store stocking specialty teas, why not pick up a packet and try it out?

The Basics of Food Allergies In Men
Allergies affect the lives of millions of people around the world. Fresh flowers, a friends cat
or dog, even dust can make people itch, sneeze and scratch almost uncontrollably. But what about
that seemingly innocent peanut butter sandwich, glass of milk or fish fillet? Learn more about
food allergies and steps you can take to reduce your risk of exposure to potentially dangerous
food allergens.

The Basics
Each year more than 50 million Americans suffer from a variety of allergic diseases such as;
atopic dermatitis and other eczemas, hives, allergies to venom of stinging insects (honeybees,
wasps, and fire ants), allergic drug reactions and food allergies. According to the National
Institutes of Health, approximately 5 million Americans, (5 to 8% of children and 1 to 2% of adults) have a true food allergy.
Food Allergy vs. Food Intolerance
Food allergy, also called food hypersensitivity,is a reaction of the bodys immune system to
something in a food or an ingredient in a food usually a protein. Food allergens are not broken
down by cooking or the digestive process. As a result, they enter the bloodstream and cause
allergic reactions throughout the body. Food allergies can cause life-threatening reactions.
Other reactions to foods are called food intolerances or food idiosyncrasies. Food intolerance is
an adverse reaction to a food substance or additive that does not involve the immune system.
These reactions are generally localized, temporary, and rarely life threatening. Lactose
intolerance is an example of food intolerance.
Note: It is very important for individuals who have true food allergies to identify them and
prevent allergic reactions to food because these reactions can cause serious illness and, in some
cases, be fatal.
Common Symptoms of Food Allergies
Symptoms of food allergy differ greatly among individuals. They can also differ in the same
person during different exposures. Allergic reactions to food can vary in severity, time of
onset, and may be affected by when the food was eaten.
Common symptoms may include: skin irritations such as rashes, hives and eczema, and
gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, diarrhea and vomiting.
Sneezing, runny nose and shortness of breath can also result from food allergy.
Some individuals may experience a more severe reaction called anaphylaxis a rare but
potentially fatal condition which may include swelling of the throat, difficulty breathing,
lowered blood pressure and unconsciousness.
Symptoms usually appear rapidly, sometimes within minutes of exposure to the allergen.
Seek immediate medical attention standard emergency treatment often includes an injection of
epinephrine (adrenaline) to open up the airway and blood vessels.

Most Common Food Allergens
The eight most common food allergens include:
Milk (including yogurt and ice cream, and anything that is made with milk)
eggs
peanuts
tree nuts (such as walnuts and almonds)
soy
wheat
fish
shellfish (such as shrimp, crayfish, lobster, and crab)
Note: These food allergens cause more than 90% of all food allergic reactions. However, many
other foods have been identified as allergens for some people.
Diagnosing Food Allergy
If you suspect you have a food allergy, get a medical evaluation. Treatment is basically avoiding
the food(s) after the specific food allergy is identified. You should see a board-certified
allergist to get a diagnosis, and a dietician to plan the proper diet.
Making a diagnosis may include a thorough medical history, analysis of a food diary, and several
tests including skin-prick tests, RAST tests (a blood test) and food challenges. Once a diagnosis
is complete, an allergist will help set up a response plan that may include taking medication by
injection to control allergic reactions.
Treatment for Food Allergies
Currently, there are no medications that cure food allergies. Strict avoidance is the only way to
prevent a reaction. Once the specific food has been identified, it must be removed from your
diet. It is important to read lengthy, detailed ingredient lists on each food you are considering
eating. The Food and Drug Administration requires ingredients in a food to appear on its label.
You can avoid most food allergens if you read food labels carefully, and avoid
restaurant-prepared food that might have ingredients to which you are allergic. Dont be shy
about asking for more information if the menu isnt clear.
Unfortunately, you cant take a medication in advance to reliably prevent an allergic reaction to
a specific food. However, there are several medications that will relieve food allergy symptoms
that are not part of an anaphylactic reaction. These include antihistamines to relieve
gastrointestinal symptoms, hives, or sneezing and a runny nose, and bronchodilators to relieve
asthma symptoms. These medications are taken after you have inadvertently ingested a food to
which you are allergic, but are not effective in preventing an allergic reaction when taken prior
to eating the food.
Note: Randomly taking different food groups out of your diet can cause other health problems.
Seek the help of a doctor before making significant changes in your diet.

Parasites and the pH miracle diet
The pH miracle diet restores balance to body. By eating mostly alkaline foods, you give your body nutrition that is more in line with the alkaline state of your cells. Excess acidic foods can lead to a host of problems. Among other benefits, following the pH miracle diet can also reduce your tendency to harbor dangerous parasites in your system that can wreak havoc on your health.
What do pH and parasites have to do with one another? The human body has a normal pH at the intracellular level of around 7.4. This is slightly alkaline. Parasites, which are unfriendly bacteria, viruses, protozoa, amoebas and microscopic worms, cannot live between a pH of 7.2 to 7.4.
In the United States, we have a diet that produces high levels of acid at the intracellular level. This is called acidosis, and it is a major underlying cause to many diseases. It also allows parasites to run rampant through your body. If you want to maintain health, youll need to restore balance to your body with an alkalizing diet.
Over time, everything we consume either keeps our bodies in an acidic state or a base state (alkaline). Processed sugars and starches, which are both a major mainstay of the Western diet, are some of the prime offenders in the acidification process. Natural sugar sources have minerals and vitamins within them. Fruits start out as acids, but have the necessary minerals within them to help the cells turn those acids into alkaline by products. Processed sugars do not, and when they are consumed, they release acid into the body. With heavy use of starches and sugars, the body becomes acidic.
Acidic pH at the intracellular level becomes a breeding ground for parasites and actually causes a mutation of friendly intestinal flora into a condition called candidiasis. Candida is natural yeast that is found in the intestine. It is kept in balance by other friendly bacteria that live with it.
However, with the overuse of sugar and the introduction of antibiotics, these friendly bacteria will becomes less prevalent. Candida will mutate and grow out of control. Candida symptoms include uncontrollable sugar cravings, chronic yeast infections, acne, dry skin, fatigue and frequent sinus infections. Parasites can also thrive when candida does, because the friendly bacteria are not there to keep them in check. Worms that would normally pass through the body find a hospitable environment and take hold in the intestine.
Parasites can destroy cells faster than they can be regenerated. They also produce toxic substances as a byproduct of their digestions. These toxic substances can lead to allergic reactions and can cause you to develop new food allergies. Parasites also irritate and invade body tissues, including the intestinal lining and even the skin. The parasites make it difficult for the tissues to operate correctly.
Over time, organ obstructions can develop and this can put pressure of your body organs and overall body functions. The immune system becomes depressed and the presence of parasites can prevent your body from using its natural healing reactions. Finally, the over presence of parasites in the body can prevent your body from absorbing nutrients properly.
The good news is that by following the pH diet you can restore the balance to your body. Since parasites cant live in an environment that is between 7.2 and 7.4 pH, alkalizing your diet will help remove them from your system. When you follow this diet you will be able to reverse the acidification process and make your body an inhospitable place for parasites.
